The story goes that, during the Battle of the Bulge, in the winter of 1944, Sgt. William Furia (shown) decorated his helmet with some lace curtains that he found in an abandoned home. He did it as a joke, but then he and his fellow soldiers realized the lace made excellent camouflage in the snow. So the practice of decorating helmets with lace curtains became widespread. And thus camouflaged, the Allied soldiers were able to beat back the German offensive. Which is how lace curtains became America's secret weapon that allowed it to win the war.

Si narra che, durante l'Offensiva delle Ardenne, nell'inverno del 1944, il Sergente William Furia (nella foto) decoro' il suo elmetto con alcuni centrini trovati in una casa abbandonata. In realta' doveva essere solo uno scherzo, ma lui ed i suoi compagni realizzarono che quello era un ottimo modo per camuffarsi nella neve, cosi' che la tattica di decorare gli elmetti con i pizzi si diffuse rapidamente. Proprio quel camuffaggio permise ai soldati dell'Alleanza di respingere l'offensiva tedesca.Proprio per questa ragione le tende all'uncinetto divennero l'arma segreta degli americani, e gli permisero di vincere la guerra.

Dreambox & Knitting Relay

Finally even Dreambox will partecipate to the Urban Knitting Total Pink, the yarn bombing event organized by Knitting Relay that will take place next months in Faenza, Italy. These photos show you the pieces created by my sister Vilma and some other friends.


Alla fine anche le pezze di maglia di Dreambox che parteciperanno all'evento Total Pink, l'urban knitting della citta' di Faenza organizzato dal gruppo Knitting Relay, sono partite ieri mattina da Bulciago (LC).
Le mattonelle, realizzate da mia sorella Vilma con Angela, Alberta, Bruna B., Bruna M., Stefania, Margherita e Marzia, andranno a ricoprire un piccolo pilastro di una delle vie centrali di Faenza.
Il gruppo Knitting Relay, formato da 3 artiste super-creative come Andrea Kotliarsky, Lauraluna Ceccolini e Mariapia Gambino, e' uno dei gruppi italiani pionieri nella diffusione dell'arte tessile, ed ha gia' organizzato nel 2011 il textile mail art, un progetto di knitting urbano itinerante che e' girato in tutta Italia per 8 mesi.

Secondo voi cosa potrebbe mai nascere da uno smisurato amore per la natura ed una forte passione per la maglia? Ma certo, una magnifica colonia di funghi!!!
Quelle che vi presento oggi sono delle installazioni d'arte tessile dell'artista americana Leigh Martin, che ha cominciato a lavorare a maglia fin da piccola, ma solo negli ultimi anni ha trasformato questa passione in un'arte.
La Martin riproduce fedelmente varie specie di funghi, per poi inserirle in modo tanto artistico quanto naturale nei boschi dell'Oklahoma, sua terra natale, regalando ai turisti ignari che passeggiano nella zona scenari incantati.

Apparently Elvis Presley went backstage at The Auditorium on the night of March 9, 1962, to say hello to some of his friends in the Holiday on Ice cast, and skating star Dorothy Goos promptly put him to work holding yarn.


Pare che la notte del 9 marzo 1962 Elvis Presley ando' dietro le quinte dell'Auditorium per salutare alcuni amici del cast dell'Holiday on ice. La star del pattinaggio Dorothy Goos lo incastro' prontamente per farsi reggere il filato.

Urban Knitting Festival in Dubai

Claire Anne O'Brien textiles sculptures

Claire Anne O'Brien  is an Irish textile designer based in London. She found the way to connect knitting and interiors decor in a gorgeus way, turning her skills and passion in art. She uses a combination of hand and machine-knit stiches to realize colorful stools and ottamans who can give a twist to every house. Look!

Claire Anne O'Brien e' un'artista tessile irlandese, con base operativa a Londra, che e' riuscita a creare una stupefacente connessione tra il lavoro a maglia ed il decor d'interni, trasformando le sue competenze e la sua passione in arte. Usando un mix di punti lavorati a mano ed a macchina, realizza sgabelli e pouff coloratissimi di maglia che possono dare brio a qualsiasi casa.
